Refers to Legislation as “Victory for Taxpayers”

Senator Dawn Marie Addiego (R-Burlington) issued the following statement today after the Senate passed S-2937, comprehensive public pension and benefit reform legislation:

“Passage of today’s historic legislation is a victory for taxpayers who will no longer be expected to fund unsustainable public employee benefits that they themselves do not receive in the private sector. Public employees who care about our state and understand that major reforms are necessary to save the pension system have taken a realistic view of the problem at hand and support the measure as well.

Senator Dawn Marie Addiego, Assemblyman Scott Rudder and Assemblyman Pat Delany expressed outrage today after the New Jersey Supreme Court ruled that an additional $500 million must be spent on the chronically failing school districts formerly known as Abbott Districts.

“Suburban taxpayers should be appalled by this ruling! The court has declared that suburban parents who are already paying twice for education, for their own children and for students in the urban districts, now must shoulder the burden of another $500 million,” said Senator Addiego.

The legislation directs the State Department of Education to create a separate core curriculum content area for the study of Civics.

Tax-Paying Residents Deserve Better Use of Their Hard-Earned Money

Legislation withholding the state operating aid of any public or independent college enrolling students who are not lawfully present in the United States will be introduced by Senator Dawn Marie Addiego, Assemblyman Scott Rudder and Assemblyman Pat Delany.

“Hard-working, tax-paying Americans, who follow the rules, are struggling to pay their fair share and to educate their own children. The use of taxpayers’ money for the benefit of people who refuse to follow the rules is unacceptable,” said Assemblyman Rudder.

The bill, which Senator Addiego will introduce in the Senate on Monday, specifies that institutions of higher education shall not be eligible to receive State operating aid in any fiscal year in which students, determined not to be lawfully present in the country, are enrolled.

Senator Dawn Marie Addiego (R-Burlington) issued the following statement today following Governor Christie’s State Budget address:

“Over the past decade Democrats relied on tax increases and one-shot gimmicks to fuel their insatiable appetite for spending. The demand placed on taxpayers forced many residents to move and businesses to relocate taking their jobs with them. Those days are thankfully over.

“Governor Christie is looking at the big picture and doing what is in the best interest for all New Jersey residents. By reducing overall state spending, increasing college grants and providing more property tax relief for families and businesses New Jersey will become a more affordable state to live and work in.

A package of bills to be introduced by Senator Dawn Marie Addiego, Assemblyman Scott Rudder, and Assemblyman Pat Delany increasing the penalty for misuse of a flashing blue emergency light, establishing a fourth-degree crime for using a vehicle to impersonate a police officer, and providing for fines for selling blue lights to unqualified individuals.

The legislators were motivated by a recent incident in Medford in the 8th District. A teenage female driver was pulled over by a vehicle flashing a blue emergency light, but after she was questioned by the male “officer,” it became apparent that he was not a policeman.

“This is a story that could have had horrible repercussions,” said Senator Addiego. “Drivers of all ages need to be assured that flashing blue lights are used only for legitimate, lawful purposes. Public safety demands the highest level of public confidence.”
