Grant Will Pay for Siding and Roof Work at Special Services’ Lumberton Campus

Senator Dawn Marie Addiego, Assemblyman Scott Rudder, and Assembly Chris Brown welcome word that the Burlington County Special Services school district would benefit from a grant from the School Development Authority.

With the grant funding of $675,000 from the SDA’s Regular Operating District Grant Program, more than 43,000 square feet of the school building in Lumberton will be re-sided, and the roof will be replaced.

Governor Signs Addiego Legislation Protecting Colleges & Universities Working to Combat Hunger from Frivolous Lawsuits Into Law

Legislation sponsored by Senator Dawn Marie Addiego holding colleges and universities that donate food to charitable organizations harmless from civil liability has been signed into law by Governor Chris Christie.

“Even food that is donated to the needy with the best of intentions can spoil or be contaminated in some way, and the donor very likely would have no idea,” said Addiego (R- Burlington/Atlantic/Camden). “Student groups at colleges and universities are getting more active in combating hunger in their communities as attention is increasingly drawn to the issue. These students and institutions should not have to suffer through a legal drama because, in the process of trying to do good, the beneficiary accidentally became sick. Such cases are accidents not worthy of blame and punitive damages.”

Legislators Supporting Sheriff Jean Stanfield’s Annual Toy Drive on Behalf of Burlington County Children

Many families in our area are struggling with unemployment or financial challenges, and facing the prospects of a holiday season without gifts for their children.

To help brighten the season and put a smile on the faces of as many youngsters as possible, the 8th District legislative team of Senator Dawn Marie Addiego, Assemblyman Scott Rudder and Assemblyman Chris Brown are joining in Burlington County Sheriff Jean Stanfield’s annual toy drive.

Toys can be contributed at the 8th District Office, 176 Route 70, at Jones Road, behind the Dunkin Donuts in Medford during normal business hours, Monday through Friday.

Donations of Canned & Shelf-Stable Foods & New Clothing Items Desperately Needed by Families Impacted by Storm

As the full impact of the damage from Hurricane Sandy is being understood, Senator Dawn Marie Addiego, Assemblyman Scott Rudder and Assemblyman Chris Brown designated the 8th District legislative office in Medford as a donation center for relief items for storm victims.

Senator Addiego and Assemblymen Rudder and Brown announced that the 8th District office, located at 176 Route 70 at Jones Road, in Medford, will be open for special Saturday hours on Nov. 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., to collect donated food personal hygiene products, and new clothing for storm victims and those who have been displaced by damage or power outages.

Items can also be delivered to the office during normal business hours, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Addiego and Garganio Collaborate on Plan to Rein in Excessive Rate Increases

With New Jersey American Water actively pursuing yet another rate increase, State Senator Dawn Marie Addiego today announced she was introducing a package of legislative reforms that will give taxpayers and ratepayers more information about excessive utility rate increases, and more clout in addressing them.

Addiego said that the bill package was the result of a collaborative effort with Burlington County Freeholder Director Bruce Garganio, who has spearheaded a campaign since last December to rein in onerous rate increases by New Jersey American Water.

Twenty 8th District Towns Will Receive Money Based on 2010 Tonnage Recycled, Not Funneled to Landfills

Senator Dawn Marie Addiego, Assemblyman Scott Rudder and Assemlbyman Chris Brown today lauded word that the Department of Environmental Protection is releasing more than $317,000 in grants to 20 municipalities in the 8th District for continue and improve recycling programs.

“Residents of our towns have embraced recycling, with the benefit of saving our landfills from an incredible amount of refuse. These grants awards provide tax relief for our municipalities add a tangible value to these efforts,” said Senator Dawn Marie Addiego.

Commission Oversees Allocation of Funds for Healthcare, Transportation & Housing Programs for Senior & Disabled Residents

Senator Dawn Marie Addiego (R-8) has been appointed as a member of the Casino Revenue Fund Advisory Commission. The 15 member commission, which includes four legislators, provides recommendations to the New Jersey Legislature on the utilization of a portion of casino revenues dedicated to programs for senior and disabled residents.

“One of the reasons New Jersey established gaming was to generate new sources of income that could be reinvested in our communities to improve the lives of our residents,” said Addiego. “It’s an honor to have been appointed to the Commission where I will have the opportunity to make important decisions on how best to fund healthcare, transportation and housing services for New Jersey residents in need.”

Senator Dawn Marie Addiego today introduced a Senate Resolution condemning Congressman Todd Akin for his indefensible comments about rape, and calling for him to withdraw as a candidate for the U.S. Senate in Missouri.

“As a woman and the mother of a daughter, I am deeply offended by the insensitivity and lack of understanding demonstrated in Mr. Akin’s indefensible remarks,” said Senator Addiego. “He has demonstrated a level of ignorance that makes him unsuitable to represent America’s women in the Senate.”
