Senate Approves Addiego Bill Creating Email Notification System for Flag Lowering

The New Jersey Senate has approved legislation sponsored by Senator Dawn Marie Addiego (R-8) that would create an email notification system to let people know when the Governor orders flags to be flown at half-staff.

“We fly the flags of the United States of America and the State of New Jersey at half-staff at times to honor, mourn and remember,” said Senator Addiego. “It’s important that we have the means to notify people when to lower their flags and explain why we’re doing it.”

Legislation sponsored by Senator Dawn Marie Addiego, Assemblyman Scott Rudder and Assemblyman Chris Brown protecting the legal rights of families involved in interstate adult guardianships was signed into law by Governor Chris Christie.

“The law provides desperately needed relief for family members who acting as guardians for aging loved ones and dementia patients,” said Senator Addiego. “By clarifying judicial jurisdiction in interstate guardian battles, we have virtually eliminated the possibility of ‘granny snatching’ by siblings or relatives in another state.”

Fully Equipped Trailer Will Be Utilized by Pemberton Community Response Team Volunteers

Senator Dawn Marie Addiego, Assemblyman Scott Rudder and Assemblyman Chris Brown (all R-8) today welcome the announcement that the Pemberton Township Community Emergency Response Team will be the recipient of a new fully equipped Flood Response Trailer from the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management.

“Many communities in our area have been hit by storm-related flooding in recent years,” said Senator Addiego. “This trailer, in the capable hands of CERT volunteers, will assure a quicker, more effective response if our area suffers another flood emergency.”

“These are important and necessary improvements to the schools, and the partnership between local and State funding helps make the projects more affordable for township residents,” said Senator Addiego. “These are projects that can cost more down the road, and we are very pleased the work will be done now, with 40 percent of the cost borne by the State.”

S-1755 Establishes New Jersey Adult Guardianship and Protective Proceedings Act

Senator Dawn Marie Addiego’s bill protecting dementia patients and their guardians advanced out of committee today with unanimous bipartisan support. S-1755 establishes uniform procedures for addressing interstate conflicts regarding adult guardianship issues. Identical Assembly bill 2628 is sponsored by Assemblyman Scott Rudder and Assemblyman Chris Brown.

“Guardianship cases stretching beyond state boundaries raise questions about jurisdiction, laws and rights in today’s mobile society,” said Senator Addiego. “This legislation provides desperately necessary protections for seniors and their adult guardians, and clarifies the jurisdiction of the state court in guardian issues.”

Sen. Addiego: Life in Prison for Murder of Child During Sex Assault

Legislation introduced by Senator Dawn Marie Addiego would eliminate the possibility of parole for anyone convicted of the murder of a minor under the age of 18 in the course of a sex crime.

“The most heinous crime imaginable should have the most severe punishment possible,” said Senator Addiego. “A life sentence with no possibility of parole is justified since we do not have the death penalty available to us in New Jersey.”

Almost $200,000 of Taxpayer Money Has Paid Half the Salary for Full-Time Local Union President’s Salary in Last 5 Years

Senator Dawn Marie Addiego, Assemblyman Scott Rudder, and Assembly Chris Brown today called on the Pemberton Township Education Association to return almost $200,000 to the school district after the State Commission of Investigation reported the money paid half the salary for the full-time employment of the local union president.

“Pemberton is one of the high-needs districts receiving enormous levels of state aid, mandated by the State Supreme Court to provide for the ‘thorough and efficient’ education of the township’s children. This year alone, $80 million is being poured into the Pemberton schools, and to learn that some of that taxpayer money is being used to pay for a union administrator is intolerable,” said Assemblyman Chris Brown. “Not a single dime of this money helps foster better education or assists our teachers.”
