Recent Decision by Arbitrator Prevented Local Freeholder Board from Implementing Change to Save Taxpayers More than $1 million

A bill drafted by Senator Dawn Marie Addiego and Assemblyman Scott Rudder will abolish the outmoded binding arbitration process.

“Binding arbitration is a tired and obsolete process that has led to escalating property taxes for more than 30 years,” said Senator Addiego. “It is a one-way street that ties the hands of government officials, prevents them from doing their jobs, and it ensures ever-increasing tax bills for our residents.”

Lawmakers Draft Legislation that Could Save Taxpayers More than $9.5 million Per Year

Senator Dawn Marie Addiego and Assemblyman Scott Rudder are introducing legislation specifically directing the State Salary Review Commission to consider recommending pay cuts for the top Public Officers in New Jersey that will annually save taxpayers $9,633,871.

“The Salary Commission was formed in 2003 to compare the compensation of public officers with their counterparts in private industry,” said Senator Addiego. “In the private sector, salaries for executives are being cut and bonuses have disappeared. Compensation for administrators and executives in the public sector should follow the same path,” said Senator Addiego. “It makes sense, and it saves taxpayer money. It needs to be done.”

“New Jersey American is displaying insensitivity and extremely poor timing, ” said Senator Addiego. “I am disappointed that while the state’s residents and New Jersey American’s customers are struggling with a nightmarish economic recession, the company has asked the BPU to allow them to charge even more money for one of life’s necessities.”

Governor Christie Visits Paulsdale in Mount Laurel for Bill Signing

Senator Dawn Marie Addiego and Assistant Assembly Republican Leader Scott Rudder praised today’s signing of legislation by Governor Chris Christie that authorizes the funding of important historic preservation projects across New Jersey.

“In a state that has seen so much new development in recent years, it’s easy to forget that New Jersey is also home to some of the oldest and most historic sites in the nation,” said Senator Addiego. “To look at these places, which include churches, homes, farms, factories, libraries and buildings built over hundreds of years, is really to look at the history of America. It’s important that we provide the resources to preserve this history for future generations.”

Senator Dawn Marie Addiego (R-Burlington) issued the following statement today following the Senate passage of the Democrat-sponsored Fiscal Year 2012 State Budget:

“This irresponsible budget spends $1.2 billion more than Governor Christie intended. It increases taxes and relies on extremely unrealistic revenue projections. Rather than gimmicks and creative accounting maneuvers, New Jersey taxpayers deserve smaller, more efficient government.”

“New Jersey needs a disciplined, long-term approach to position New Jersey for economic growth and job creation. Higher taxes and increased spending will hinder any hope at a recovery.”
