Legislation sponsored by Senator Robert Singer (R-30) and Senator Dawn Marie Addiego (R-8) which would require the Commissioner of Health and Senior Services to convene a planning summit to examine an expected shortage of physicians practicing in the Garden State has been approved by the New Jersey Senate.

“A recently completed report predicts that within the next decade, New Jersey will face a shortage of thousands of physicians practicing in family care and important specialties,” said Singer. “Unless we get to work now to prevent that shortage, many New Jerseyans may soon find themselves without doctors or unable to obtain appointments or treatments when they need them.”

Hard Decisions, Unpopular Choices Have Fueled New Jersey’s Comeback

Senator Dawn Marie Addiego, Assemblyman Scott Rudder and Assembly Chris Brown (all R-Burlington) issued the following statements after Governor Chris Christie’s State of the State address to a joint session of the New Jersey Legislature.

Senator Addiego:

“We have made significant progress over two years of Governor Christie’s leadership. We have worked alongside the Governor to rein in out-of-control spending and pass long-term reforms. Now we are moving in the right direction. Because we made the tough choices in 2010 and 2011, we are going to bring tangible relief to taxpayers with income tax cuts and the full restoration of the Earned Income Tax Credit for working families. While other states are still being forced to increase taxes, New Jersey residents will benefit with more money in their pockets, and more economic opportunity in the future.”

During my time in the Assembly, I valued and benefitted from the guidance and steady hand of our Republican leader, and admired his grace and poise. His death is a loss to his family, his friends, the legislature and the State of New Jersey.”

A bill drafted by Senator Dawn Marie Addiego and Assemblyman Scott Rudder will abolish the outmoded binding arbitration process.

“Binding arbitration is a tired and obsolete process that has led to escalating property taxes for more than 30 years,” said Senator Addiego. “It is a one-way street that ties the hands of government officials, prevents them from doing their jobs, and it ensures ever-increasing tax bills for our residents.”

Lawmakers Draft Legislation that Could Save Taxpayers More than $9.5 million Per Year

Senator Dawn Marie Addiego and Assemblyman Scott Rudder are introducing legislation specifically directing the State Salary Review Commission to consider recommending pay cuts for the top Public Officers in New Jersey that will annually save taxpayers $9,633,871.

“The Salary Commission was formed in 2003 to compare the compensation of public officers with their counterparts in private industry,” said Senator Addiego. “In the private sector, salaries for executives are being cut and bonuses have disappeared. Compensation for administrators and executives in the public sector should follow the same path,” said Senator Addiego. “It makes sense, and it saves taxpayer money. It needs to be done.”
