The legislators and their district office team accepted the Covenant House challenge to spend a night in solidarity with the 4.2 million homeless youth in America. The Sleep Out will be held on Thursday, March 24 at 7 p.m. until the morning.

“Children of military service members face many unique responsibilities during their school years,” said Stanfield (R-8). “Between K-12, military children can move to different locations six to nine times, which separates them from family and friends as well as familiar social environments. My legislation will formally recognize these young American heroes for their daily sacrifices and the distinctive challenges they must overcome.”

The bill, S-429, would provide corporation business tax and gross income tax credits to incentivize commercial zero emission vehicle fleet conversions and installation of electric vehicle charging stations.
“The tax credits established by this measure will make it even more attractive for corporations, business owners and residents to embrace the ecological and economic benefits of electric vehicles,” said Stanfield (R-8). “The transition from carbon fuels to renewable electricity for cars and trucks will help clear the air and improve New Jersey’s quality of life.”

The resolution (SR-67) urges the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) to continue prohibit the harvest of female horseshoe crabs, except for scientific purposes.

The 8th District legislators honed in on the continuation of funding cuts in rural and suburban schools in South Jersey and cuts to an open space funding program that directly affects Pineland town taxpayers.
“Sadly, this is what South Jersey has come to expect during the yearly budget process, but it’s not how it has to continue,” said Stanfield. “Last year, we fought to successfully restore Pinelands funding, and it looks like we have to start that fight all over again this year. But that’s what we’re here for.”

The bipartisan bill also sponsored by Senator Vin Gopal (D-11), S-356, disqualifies any person convicted of human trafficking from operating a commercial motor vehicle. The measure was endorsed by the Senate with a vote of 39-0.
“Human trafficking is a heinous crime that is conducted in the shadows of every region of our nation,” said Stanfield (R-8). “Box trucks, 18-wheelers and other commercial vehicles are often used to secretly shuttle victims to new towns or across state lines.

Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst has experienced issues with overcrowding of deer population within its fences, which has caused issues with airfield safety and on-base vehicle safety.
“Protecting base missions is always something we need to be thinking about in the legislature. Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst is incredibly important to the South Jersey economy and the safety of our nation,” said Stanfield (R-8).
